Sasha A. Foster is a licensed physical therapists with 18 years
of experience in the fields of senior fitness and therapy. Her passion for senior advocacy grew from her relationship with
Bertha, a 100 year-young fitness student in Craig, Colorado. Bertha exuded a joie de vivre unparalleled by her younger ‘geriatric’ cohorts. When queried about this difference
Bertha wrote a note for Sasha that still hangs in her office, “Exercise
is the body’s own natural medicine; it needs no prescription.”
From that time forward Sasha began to
study how to remain young for the full span of a human life. She studied with a homeopathic doctor and learned, “water
has memory.” She followed this line of study to the Biology Department at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. Searching for the research supporting this naturopathic theory, she found her way to the neurology
lab at University Hospital where her passion for neurology was sparked. She learned that nerves
can grow and change in response to both internal and external factors.
Her neurology passion
continued in Arcadia University in Glenside, PA, where she studied physical therapy and completed a research project on strength training in the geriatric population. This
research project confirmed what other research was showing – any muscle tissue can gain strength; age is not
a factor.

While in graduate school
she received her yoga teacher’s certification. The combination of the research-based PT training and the mental-based yoga training linked inextricably
and would later become her therapy approach; a calm, quiet, powerful approach that reveals to clients their full potential.
After completing her degrees she returned to Colorado to work as a geriatric physical therapist. In this capacity she has worked in the full spectrum of geriatric care in both rural and metropolitan areas including nursing
homes, Alzheimer’s units, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, and home care. Her experience ranges from staff
therapist to rehabilitation department management and consultation.
Through all of these experiences she has learned
one very important thing: It is possible to stay young, vibrant, and healthy;
and it’s significantly easier than choosing to become ill.

All of her work to date is founded on
these principles. Her most recent endeavors include founding Canine Fitness Zone, a canine physical therapy clinic in
Fort Collins, Colorado; co-authoring the award-winning book, The Healthy Way to Stretch Your Dog, A Physical
Therapy Approach, which has now been turned into a full length DVD; and teaching for Canine Rehabilitation Institute,
one of the two certifying bodies for animal rehabilitation.
Sasha
can be found in Fort Collins, Colorado writing research-based educational books, DVDs, and articles for humans
and their animal companions.
